Cut the Cord

thanksgiving

Whew! I am ready for this week to be over. Thanksgiving was great, but a little bit nutty. There was dress-trying-on, dog sitting, family visiting, two birthday parties, the annual 5K turkey trot in our neighborhood, and of course lots of good eating! My grandma helped me put my winder and umbrella thing up to wind my balls. I’m in love with them! It takes a minute or two to wind balls now instead of many, many minutes of me winding them by hand! It is glorious. Well worth the money!

Wedding planning has made knitting sit a little bit on the back-burner, but I’m still managing to get things done. I finished a cute bag and a matching scarf for my Back-Tack partner, Bridget, and even made some new lip balms in a honey vanilla flavor for her.

Jason’s Christmas present, which I cannot disclose, is nearly finished.  Lane’s lady bug mittens were started and then frogged, and then started again. They are now nearly done – I finished the embroidery on one of them and now have to finish the second one and the string between them. The four stockings are practically done and the other day I had an epiphany – I am not allergic to bamboo. What I AM allergic to is the yarn that I’m using to make the stockings. I think it’s a good thing that I only just figured this out. Had I figured it out early on I probably wouldn’t have finished them or I would have quit using the yarn which would have been a huge waste of money. I’m going to stick to it – I’m so close to finishing them! The yellow one, which was previously done being knitted, now needs to be fixed because Rufus chewed a hole in it. Luckily, the little devil only chewed it in one place before I caught him and it was at the top, which means it’s pretty easy to fix. I’ve already cut the mess away – now I just need to re-knit it. The green one is blocked and good to go except for the hanging loop which will take all of 10 minutes to do. The blue one is pretty close to done – I only have a little bit of the toe left to knit. The red one is now at the heel. So I’m close! Of course now I only let myself knit a little bit of them before I stop and wash my hands. Last night I continued for a little bit too long because now my hands are itchy and a little broken out in hives. Luckily, I found some allergy cream!

Jason and I are going to begin saving for our honeymoon… we don’t know exactly where we want to go, but we do want to start saving. I’m going to put all baby/pet-sitting money into that fund, and we’re both putting any overtime we earn at work into it, as well as $100/mo minimum. We’ve talked about going to Alaska, and if we stick to that then we will probably wait for a while after our wedding to go so that the weather is nicer which means that we have a bit more time to save up some money. We are also trying to rent our apartment out for inauguration week so that we can get some extra money too! We’ll see what happens…
